High Access Solutions

Confronted with the design of a safe system of works for the new stadium roof; HASL designed and implemented a bespoke system of running lines and engineered cut and patterned safety net system, installed onto webbing belts and pre installed welded cleats to provide a collective protection system  for the roofing contractor.  HASL also provided rescue cover during roofing works with the use of a rope access rescue team which were on standby for the whole site in case of rescue.

HASL supplied safety  nets and the new 'Safedge Class B' System to EN 13374 Class B on Asda Distribution, Doncaster and found it to be a great success in providing the workers with a fixed conforming handrail which prevented a fall rather than the traditional net barrier class C system which only arrests a fall.  This system is now utilised by many of our clients as the preferred choice of edge protection on their projects.

HASL supplied roof safety nets, Combisafe net barrier and also completed various rope access works on the Energy Centre, Sheffield.  Combisafe net barrier had not been used on such large eaves details of up to 3.5m and had also not been installed by rope access at this height or complexity before. The Energy Centre consists of 10 multi level roofs up to a height of 50m.

HASL designed and installed a debris containment system unlike any other on this highly sensitive project.  This system consisted of a triple-layer fire retardant system  of white safety nets cut and patterned to fit; and installed to HASL tested anchors.  The White debris mesh had a burst strength of 36kg and the white sail cloth used in ships sails provided a light and fully dust proof containment system.  This system was installed during weekends and therefore no interruption was required in the plant and therefore the manufacturing process could continue to run its usual twenty four hour cycles without  the loss of any production time.

Our teams completed the first complete bridge inspection for the Skye Bridge.  A gantry system was assembled on the quay side and craned onto a loading barge and floated into position.  Once in position a series of powered tirfors hauled the platform into position on to the under deck side to facilitate access for the structural survey team to carry out a cover meter assessment and visual report of the structure.  Many complex rope access systems were employed to facilitate in the installation and subsequent positioning of the platform system over the full length of the main span.

Our teams completed a large scale painting contract consisting of removal of existing paint coat with grinders, application of three coats of high specification paint to the lower section of the south tower.  Contract included complex rope access methods to access all areas, installation and dismantling of access platform for the paint crew and paint thickness testing to ensure the correct coverage had been applied between coats.

HASL were contracted in to assist the design company in remedial works to the Redland Green Park signature masts.  HASL removed the illuminated signage without need for disruption to an already congested area by utilising rope access procedures.  HASL also refitted all signage and completed the electrical connections with minimal cost and vast amounts of time saved over traditional access methods.

HASL designed and tested a EN13374 Class A temporary edge protection system on the new Sheffield University project for Bovis Lend Lease.  This contract required a system height of 2.4m from finished roof slab to the top of the protection as a roof build up of up to 1200mm had to be allowed for.  With the assistance of Combisafe's engineering department the system was built and tested on site by HASL and passed the strict standards of EN 13374 Class A.  This system is also on offer as part of HASL's products to our clients.

Bradford University is one example out of over 75 projects WP safety nets have been used upon in the UK over the last 10 years.  This system gives the roofing contractor total freedom of movement around the workplace.  This system whilst providing total exclusion of all works from below allows parallel works to continue  and vast amounts of time to be saved in the process.

Our teams installed the rain water systems on the new Croke Park stadium stand and assisted the cladding contractor in their installation of the glazed areas.  Other works included steel fixing, installation of safety netting, various platform installation and dismantling and painting to various areas.

HASL were confronted with the challenge of erecting a safety net system incorporating a debris net system to the highly sensitive  Leavesden Studio site, responsible for the production of the Harry Potter and latest Batman films.  This project had to be completed within strict filming time constraints and consisted of full rope access techniques to install the system above and among the lighting and set gantries.  Our dedicated rope access teams once again enabled the system to be completed within budget and with zero injury in the required time period.

HASL undertook the installation of a WP system on the new Centre Parcs project in France.  This is the first mainland Europe contract undertaken by HASL in 2007 and proved to be a high success with project planning and installation phasing all meeting  scheduled times and within budget. 

Our teams completed various works to many of the canary wharf structures including Citi Group tower and the Barclays tower.  Works included installation and replacement of large glazing panels lifted into place at over 150m from ground level, mastic works, installation of flashings and sun visors and finally remedial works to pressure plates.

HASL installed and dismantled the full safety net system and access towers to the new indoor ski and activity centre at Trafford park in Manchester.  Along with the safety net system HASL supplied and installed temporary edge protection to various roof areas.  HASL also completed various poster installations and cleaning works during the contract period and concluded the project with large scale painting works to the roof steelwork.

The challenge of undertaking a full roof maintenance programme consisting of repainting the underside roof steelwork to the tropical gardens area without affecting day to day activities in the conference centre; HASL worked in partnership with Vector Special Projects Ltd installed a WP net system under slung with a visqueen membrane which provided access for the painting team and created total exclusion of all works from the gardens below.  This system was selected as no MEWP access was available, and proved to be a highly cost effective and efficient method of working.

Project secured to undertake a full structural steelwork survey using industrial rope access, followed by torque testing, and replacement of faulty main structural fixings.

HASL completed a full structural survey to Colmore Row shopping centre in Birmingham using rope access as access.  It was confirmed that the marble panel fixings were corroded and therefore structural integrity was compromised.  HASL undertook the mammoth task of completely encasing the building in a rock meshing product.

HASL installed over 50 Combisafe Net fans to the new Colmore Plaza in Birmingham for Bowmer & Kirkland.  This installation was undertaken utilising a mini-crane to reduce down time for the tower crane.

HASL designed and installed safety nets, edge protection and Haki access towers for the construction of the new leisure centre in Leeds.  Upon completion HASL also provided rope access operatives to undertake structural testing of the dive pool safety harnesses, industrial cleaning and finally paint applications.

HASL employees completed the successful removal of 1000 1 tonne concrete cruciform sections utilising industrial rope access on the tallest building in county Cork, Ireland.

HASL supplied a team of industrial rope access operatives to install and commission the new lit signage to the Ramada Hotel in York.

HASL were firstly contracted to undertake the final building clean at the John Lewis Project in London.  HASL also secured a full cosmetic coat to the structural steelwork and also the light well walls.

HASL were contracted to assist in the application of mastic to the remaining areas at the Law Courts in Manchester.  HASL also undertook a full clean of the glazing areas.

HASL designed and installed a safety net system to the new stand area by industrial rope access, this was particularly difficult as the main structural rafters were box section making rigging and dismantling very time consuming during the winter months.
