Recent Bespoke Projects:
HASL provide Complex Safety Net Systems, Engineered and Tested Edge Protection systems, Work Position Safety Nets, Debris Containment Systems , Access Towers and much more: HASL can provide a One Stop Shop for bespoke systems to suit specific project requirements, with manufacturer's and HSE approval for the most challenging environments and constraints presented. Complex Safety Net SystemsConfronted with the design of a safe system of works for the new stadium roof; HASL designed and implemented a bespoke system of running lines and engineered cut and patterned safety net system, installed onto webbing belts and pre installed welded cleats to provide a collective protection system for the roofing contractor. HASL also provided rescue cover during roofing works with the use of a rope access rescue team which were on standby for the whole site in case of rescue. The new £320 million waste management facility constructed by Bovis Lend Lease in Lancashire has provided HASL with another challenge to provide safety solution in 'one single package', safety nets, temporary edge protection and Access towers. The corrosive nature of the waste treatment environment has meant that a specialist paint system has had to be applied to the finsihed steelwork to protect the structure. This paint system is extremely fragile and therefore no direct contact between any steel component can be made without damages being incurred. HASL designed a new form of attachment point for the safety net system as the standard rope tie would damage the paint system. Our design incorporates a 'non marking' rubber sock fixed to a grippa attachment; which protects the paint system from damage by the standard grippa. Debris Containment SystemsBoots Pharmaceuticals, Nottingham HASL designed and installed a debris containment system unlike any other on this highly sensitive project. This system consisted of a triple-layer fire retardant system of white safety nets cut and patterned to fit; and installed to HASL tested anchors. The White debris mesh had a burst strength of 36kg and the white sail cloth used in ships sails provided a light and fully dust proof containment system. This system was installed during weekends and therefore no interruption was required in the plant and therefore the manufacturing process could continue to run its usual twenty four hour cycles without the loss of any production time. Engineered and Tested systems of Edge ProtectionOn many UK construction sites it has been common place that traditional triple rail scaffold edge protection systems will provide protection for workers from a fall with a handrail, however this type of system does not meet the new BS EN 13374 Standards as the system does not have sufficient supports on large bay warehouses and many other structures. The only system available for this type of application is 'Combisafe Net Barrier' System, however this system does not have a fixed handrail to prevent falls. Projects which have had Net Barrier edge protection system installed by HASL have had questions raised by HSE as this system poses a potential fall arrest situation for a worker who stumbles, and under the hierarchy of risk management, fall arrest situations must be avoided if possible.
Actual Test video of HASL 'Safedge' System. HASL supplied the new 'Safedge Class B' System on Asda Distribution, Doncaster for FK Roofing Ltd and found it to be a great success in providing the workers with a fixed conforming handrail which prevented a fall rather than the traditional net barrier system which only arrests a fall. This system is now utilised by many of our clients as the preferred choice of edge protection on their projects. After the success of the 'Safedge Class B' System FK Roofing Ltd commissioned HASL to confront another difficult access problem on Becton Waterfront Business Park, main agent McLaren Construction Ltd. HASL developed a specific 'Safedge Class A' Edge protection system with Ventures & Consultancy Bradford Ltd. This system allowed full integration of parallel works between the roofing and the cladding works proving a reduction in costs and lead times. This system is also currently on offer as part of HASL's continued process to understanding our clients project requirements, delivering professional solutions, on time and within budget. . HASL have in 2007 designed and tested a further Class A system for Northern Cladding Ltd working for Bovis Lend Lease. This contract required a system height of 2.4m from finished roof slab to the top of the protection as a roof build up of up to 1200mm had to be allowed for. With the assistance of Combisafe's engineering department the system was built and tested on site by HASL and passed the strict standards of EN 13374 Class A. This system is also on offer as part of HASL's products to our clients. Work Position Safety NetsHASL are the preferred installers of WP safety net systems to Vector Special Projects Ltd. . Bradford University is one example out of over 75 projects WP safety nets have been used upon in the UK over the last 10 years. This system gives the roofing contractor total freedom of movement around the workplace. This system whilst providing total exclusion of all works from below allows parallel works to continue and vast amounts of time to be saved in the process. . The challenge of undertaking a full roof maintenance programme consisting of repainting the underside of the roof steelwork to the tropical gardens area without affecting day to day activities in the conference centre; HASL worked in partnership with Vector Special Projects Ltd installed a WP net system under slung with a visqueen membrane which provided access for the painting team and created total exclusion of all works from the gardens below. This system was selected as no MEWP access was available, and proved to be a highly cost effective and efficient method of working. . The new theme park in Pembroke provided HASL a challenge never before. This challenge was in the supply of a WP safety net system which would be installed onto glulam beams. HASL installed a series of eyebolts directly drilled and fixed through the structural timbers to provide support for the WP net system with careful consideration and direct involvement from the timber manufacturers being given. This full system was fully installed and commissioned from MEWPs access and provided the roofing contractor with a safe system of works for the roofing phase. . HASL undertook the installation of a WP system on the new Centre Parcs project in France. This is the first mainland Europe contract undertaken by HASL in 2007 and proved to be a hugh success with project planning and installation phasing all meeting scheduled times and within budget. HASL can provide bespoke systems to suit your project requirements, please contact us for further information.
